Our body goes through different stages of the sleep cycle. Deep sleep is the third non-rapid eye movement (non-REM) sleep stage. Deep sleep is also called slow-wave sleep. In this deep sleep, your brain waves are at their slowest. Your heartbeat and breathing also slow down.
